Custom Rubber Parts

Captain O-Ring LLC is capable of producing virtually any molded rubber part. While many companies upcharge for mold fees, Captain O-Ring has always produced molds at cost to ensure our customers the absolute best value. Captain O-Ring LLC offers low minimums on incredibly economical custom rubber parts molding.

For simple parts, a basic hand drawing with labeled dimensions can be converted by Captain O-Ring into a technical drawing in which a mold can be produced. We can also accept CAD drawings in all major file formats.

Custom Rubber Parts Materials

Below is a list of several common materials and some of their properties.  This is by no means an exhaustive list of the materials we can mold with or their properties.  Please inquire with us about other materials, as well as the environment that your part will be placed into so that we can confirm the most suitable and economical material for you.

Natrual Rubber (NR)

• -60ºF to 220ºF
• Excellent compression set, good resilience to abrasion, good surface friction properties
• Not resistant to many chemicals, poor resistance to ozone and UV
• Cost Level:  $

Buna Nitrile (BN/NBR)

• -40ºF to 250ºF
• Excellent compression set, superior tear resistance, abrasion resistant
• Poor weather resistance, moderate heat resistance
• Suitable with:  Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Petroleum Oils, Gasoline, Hydraulic Oils, Diesel Fuel, Water
• Cost Level:  $

Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR)

• -40ºF to 300ºF
• Excellent heat and oil resistance, better fuel and ozone resistance than Nitrile
• Decreased elasticity at low temperatures compared to Nitrile
• Suitable with:  Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Petroleum Oils, Gasoline, Hydraulic Oils, Diesel Fuel, H2S (10%), Water    
• Cost Level:  $$

Ethylene Propylene (EPDM)

• -60ºF to 300ºF
• Excellent weather resistance, good low temperature flexability, excellent chemical resistance, good heat resistance
• Poor resistance to petroleum oil and solvents
• Suitable with:  Ammonia, Brake Fluids, Steam
• Cost Level:  $

Flouroelastomer (FKM) [Brand Named:  Viton®]

• 0ºF to 390ºF
• Excellent chemical resistance, excellent heat resistance, good mechanical properties, good compression set resistance
• Poor low temperature flexability, poor resistance to hot water/steam
• Suitable with:  Petroleum Oils, Silicone Oils, Gasoline
• Cost Level:  $$

Silicone (VMQ)

• -90ºF to 430ºF
• Excellent compression set resistance, low odor/taste
• Poor abrasion resistance
• Suitable with:  Vegetable Oil, Water, Ozone
• Cost Level:  $$

Neoprene (CR)

• -40ºF to 250ºF
• Moderate resistance to petroleum oils, good resistance to ozone, UV, oxygen, excellent resistance to Freon® and ammonia
• Moderate water resistance, not effective in solvents
• Suitable with:  Ammonia, Refrigerants, Ozone
• Cost Level:  $$

PTFE [Brand named:  Teflon®]

• -150ºF to 530ºF
• Suitable with:  Most Media
• Cost Level:  $$$$

Polyurethane (PU)

• -40ºF to 195ºF
• Suitable with:  Most Petroleum Oils
• Cost Level:  $$

Custom Rubber Parts Order Lead Time

For most custom rubber parts runs, the lead time is 36-40 calendar days.  In this time we will create a mold, procure and mix the compound, and produce the parts.  The lead time for reorders is much shorter, as the mold will already be on hand.

Because of the nature of custom parts manufacturing, it is impossible to give an MOQ estimate without a part drawing and material choice.  Please inquire with us about the minimum order quantity of your part.
